Are visitors welcome at the monastery?

Of course! Please contact Fr. Samuel at (661) 372-0815 to confirm availability and access to the monastery. Also, please have some idea of what you’re looking for from the visit.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal or specific dress code when visiting the monastery. That being said, please dress in a manner that would be appropriate for a church event (no offensive images/messages on clothes).

If visiting between November-March, please come dressed appropriately for colder weather (potentially even for snow).

Please note that closed toe shoes are required for anyone wishing to hike the mountain (no sandals or flip flops for safety reasons).

How do I get to the monastery?

The monastery’s address is 20991 Old Town Rd, Tehachapi, CA. However, traditional GPS/navigation/map apps will only direct you to where the monastery’s driveway begins.

If you’re coming from Jeffrey to Old Town Rd: Take a right on to the driveway.

If you’re coming from Highland Banducci to Old Town Rd: Take a left on to the driveway.

There is a rooster statue indicating the start of the driveway.

Is it possible to stay at the monastery overnight?

Yes! Please confirm dates/times with Fr. Samuel at 661) 372-0815. Plan to bring a towel and bed sheets for any overnight stays.

What is the regular prayer schedule at the monastery?

While the times may vary, the general schedule is as follows:

6:30 AM: Night Vigil

7:00 AM: Morning Prayer

9:00 AM: 3rd Hour

12:00 PM: 6th Hour

3:00 PM: 9th Hour

6:00 PM: Evening Prayer

9:00 PM: Compline

Liturgies will be not be celebrated on a set schedule, but will be announced in advance.

Are cell phones allowed at the monastery?

Technically, yes. However, it is strongly encouraged that you try to disconnect from the outside world while at the monastery. There will be an area where you can leave your phone/other electronics for the duration of your visit. Come to the monastery with an expectation of experiencing silence.

Is the monastery handicap-accessible?

Yes! The entire property is ADA-compliant. There are no steps/stairs anywhere on the property.

Can I help around the monastery?

Yes! There will always be tasks to be completed on the grounds, so if you’re at all interested in assisting in physical/manual labor (or otherwise), your service would be greatly appreciated.
